About the Mustang

2015 marks the Golden Anniversary of Ford’s iconic Mustang. A staple in American culture, the 2015 Mustang features, to many fans’ surprise, a four-cylinder engine beneath the hood. Not necessarily what they were expecting for a special year for this sporty car. Thankfully, Ford didn’t take away the V8 and V6 options from those power-hungry fans. And, truth be told, the 2015 Mustang’s EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is a fine turbocharged specimen - nothing to shake your head at. A four-cylinder engine isn’t new for the Mustang. Some of the models from the 1970’s and 1980’s also featured one. Unlike those somewhat forgotten years for Ford, this new EcoBoost option is refined, offering drivers twice the power and higher fuel efficiency. And while this four-cylinder option might not be part of your dream package, it does provide options. Other options for the 2015 Mustang are that all engine models offer either six-speed manual or automatic. The six-speed automatic comes equipped with paddle shifting. A big feature of this year’s Mustang is the addition of independent rear suspension, allowing for enhanced performance when it comes to overall ride comfort and handling. In the past, the Mustang has relied on an old-school rear axle design. The new 2015 design gives drivers a better braking experience than past models and more precision when it comes to steering. By choosing the four-cylinder option, the overall driving and handling experience is actually enhanced, because the engine is lighter. Has the 2015 Mustang put on some weight? Yes. (But after fifty years that’s expected!) Each model weighs more than those in the past, varying from twenty to eighty pounds heavier. And while the car might be a bit heavier this year, it hasn’t lost its physical prowess. The new design offers a distinct, slightly aggressive look and the appearance of the newly designed rear windows resembles, to some extent, Aston Martin’s newest cars. With that said, the 2015 Mustang is still very much a Mustang, galloping around town with its famous trapezoid-shaped grille and the well-known taillights. Some other noticeable changes about the 2015 design is that it sits lower (about an inch and a half) and is a bit wider (another inch and a half). Inside you’ll enjoy a redone cabin, one that features more luxury materials, space, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel that does just about everything James Bond would expect it to - tilt and telescope. Overall, the 2015 Mustang has had some major upgrades while still maintaining its classic, sporty appearance. It drives better, yes, and its interior has been improved, but, like the good old days, Chevrolet and Dodge are offering stiff competition with their 2015 models of the Camaro and Challenger. Pony fans will be drawn to the 2015’s V6 model and the plethora of included features, like 17” alloy wheels, keyless ignition, integrated mirrors with blind-spot protection, a rearview camera, a voice control system, and a sound system that is equipped with six speakers, just to name a few. Like to upgrade? You can consider adding 18” wheels, a spoiler, and rear park assist to your Stang. For the eco-friendly fans, the EcoBoost four-cylinder model includes everything that comes with the V6 model, as well as the turbocharged engine, fog lamps, active noise cancellation, and an attractive aluminum dash trim. If you’re pondering the performance difference between the manual and automatic transmission options in the four-cylinder. Let us help you: there’s not much to ponder. Testing shows that both are almost identical in their zero to sixty tests. 2015 is a good year for the Ford Mustang, with upgrades in handling, performance, and interior design. Throw in the additional option of an EcoBoost engine, and we think drivers will be thrilled with choosing this classic American legend.
