A lot of prep for upcoming solo event. Looking at 4 hours track time per day! Enkei's are on with the RCE's. I am going to run 400lb springs and do some dialing while there. I will also be using a pyrometer to properly measure the tire temps along the sides and center after coming off sessions. Camber up front has been dialed back slightly to -2.5 & -2.6, rears are -2. very slight positive toe in the rear at 1 degree. The crazy piece visually is the new 265's still look to sit flat out back! Good, I'll see how they behave on heavy loads. The RCE's have 5 settings, currently at 3. I will have to slightly raise the rear coil overs as I am getting contact on the left side when steering. Under normal driving the car feels much heavier on the bottom, probably the massive contact patch increase. Motor mount has improved response of momentum, from a standstill at least. The car generally feels noticeably quicker (again this isn't at speed yet). I'll see how many seconds I shave off per lap, but I have a feeling I will be doing adjusting a few times before the updated formula has really shined. I also think I am going to tow her to and fro. No need to wear the MPSC2's from hundreds of miles of driving before and after. Very excited to experience her updated setup! Will report back!
Awesome track session at the Glen last weekend. I wasn't able to get the larger Enkei's on because I forgot to pickup wide track LCA's. However, I am learning that I might actually need coil overs to properly fit them! If that's the case I'll most likely have an almost brand new set of B8 bilsteins up for sale with TRD springs ;). I'm still researching the coil overs but am looking at RCE/tarmac 2 with swift springs (500lbs up front). That's a big investment so hopefully the wheels fit. I marked them as installed but am obviously running a little behind! The other two FA20 machines belonged to good friends, both running Jackson Superchargers. As the lap times are fairly consistent now, albeit hardware improvements and tuning as well as my general development, I am amazed at how almost every component change, weight reduction, aero is very apparent at speed on track. I'm looking forward to the next outing, an advanced solo event in September (this will be the cars third), with all of the changes over the past few days and probably a few more before the event. Be well everyone and enjoy your machines!
Oh, and I am still not done loading/updating the delicious tune for the headers/front/over pipe. The front pipe has a cat, I have not seen a code thrown (yet). Even without the tune the car is noticeably stronger. Ironing out the mid range dip through the tune isn't a big issue at the track as the car will not dip low enough to experience it, but logging and tuning is obviously still necessary. Also switched to Amsoil 0-20 synthetic and K&N oil filters after recent research. She was running Castrol and Subi filters up until now (both solid products). I'll post a picture of the wheel/tire setup once on. I might powder coat match the Enkei's (they are gunmetal) to the oem wheels after the event as they don't look that dissimilar. Be well everyone and have fun in your machines!
The car's second track event is this weekend at the Glen. This one is through the PCA so I will see boxster's, caymans, etc. A lot of the club members and invites actually drive non Porsche cars as well so it is a very diverse event of cars. This weekend is not a spec race, not yet, there's more work and hours behind the wheel to do. I am going to try and mount 265/35 18 MPSC2 tires onto Enkei RS05-RR's before hand. Should be a huge step from the 225 MPS4's currently on. Check out the difference (picture cropped some on upload) between the oems and sport cups! I might actually come close to almost never lifting the entire lap lol ;)
Whew, done populating current parts (I think)! This is the Release Series 2.0 #661 =D
After taking a 20 year sabbatical I decided to get back on the track. This is the car I chose to stretch legs with and I am not one bit disappointed. Aside from tech inspections, pre/post session pmcs, I am very aggressive on her maintenance. I'll save the track palaver for those interested. Watch the goodies on her evolve over time ;)
