Tell us the story behind your ride. What made you pick this particular one? Where did you find it? I was fresh out of school and my 96 Integra had seen better days, and quite frankly I was tired of recusitating the car at routine intevals once a month. I test drove 2 Evo8's that had major issues not evident in the ads posted, I was hard pressed to find a decent 03/04 Cobra under 23k, and if I didn't find anything by year's end, I was getting a new Focus ST. Late night craigslist browsing one June 2014, I found a one owner, stock with a few preventative mods, 04 SRT4. I texted him early at 7am, met by 10am. First thing out of the owner's mouth was that his phone was blowing up since we had last talked, with several calls and texts by people wanting the car then and there, but the owner was awesome enough to hold off until we met. I left with a down payment and 2 days later, the car was in my driveway. I had always loved the underdog SRT4's. The american sport compact done right (at the time, anyways). The car represents everything that was hot in the tuner scene at the time; aggressive body kit, complete with a functional hood scoop and big ass NASA surplus deck wing, aftermarket style guage layout, huge bolstered race seats, and a turbo'd 2.4 liter motor that made the car actually move just as aggresively as it looked. I got lucky. I found this at 1/4 of the budget I was looking to spend. I had quit looking for one a long time ago in decent condition- let alone stock. Good thing I couldn't sleep that night. Describe the modifications you've made. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it?Cosmetically, I wanted clean and understated. All thats done is BC coilovers, BBS CF wheels custom powercoated, paint matched mirrors and eyelids, custom front badge, and custom front plate mount (only after a Highway Patrolman pulled me over just for that since I didn't have it mounted at all)Performance, I basically have intake, tune, and exhaust. Okay, a lightwieght battery/cold air kit, Needless Torque tune with gas/e85, and custom 3 inch turbo back side exit exhaust.Of all the mods you’ve made, which do you think offers the biggest bang for the buck?E85 tune surprised me and an LS3 Camaro from a 50 roll. Go figure they wanted a dig race right after. How did you go about selecting the specific parts for this build? Any installation tips to share?I live near JMB Performance and went to school with several guys that work/have worked for Justin. My experience has always been great work, can't think of a bad thing to say about them. Other parts were chosen based off reviews and quality. What are you planning next?Continue to daily drive, even with the eventual motor/big turbo build, shooting for close to 600 whp on e85.What’s been the biggest challenge with this build? It's a neon. Quality is not it's middle name. One almost has to be a masochist to properly maintain a neon SRT4. I'm proud of what I've done thus far and will continue to make it mine. I've had several people try to buy the car from me, so I guess I'm doing something right.
