Ever since I saw my first e46 M3 back around 2005-2006 (I was in 7th grade), I was hooked. Everything about the car amazed me. Fast forward to June 2014. I joined the Marines (infantry) in late 2012. March 2014, I was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Now for those of you that do not know, while you're deployed to a combat zone, you get a lot of extra pay (combat pay, imminent danger pay, overseas pay, etc..) and it's all 100% tax free. So in June after having saved a good amount of money, I started looking at buying a new car when I got home. The thought of buying an e46 m3 never even crossed my mind because I just figured I couldn't afford one. My absolute max budget was $23,000. I started looking at 350z's, and I was pretty set on getting one. Growing up, my uncle bought one brand new and I thought it was the coolest car. After about a month of searching for a 350z, I decided to just look around at E46 M3's just for sh*ts and giggles. Thats when I realized that not only can I actually afford an M3 on my budget, but I can get a pretty nice one, too. This is what led me to M3Forum, a place where all M3 enthusiasts come to seek help, buy parts and cars, and just talk about their M. Browsing the "Cars for Sale" section, I came across a few M3s that I really liked. I really wanted a jet black on black, but none were for sale at the time. I waited another week and went back to the forum, and there she was! Jet black on black, 74k miles, CSL front bumper and rear dffuser, coilovers, exhaust, intake, wheels, everything I wanted. Asking price? $24,500. I messaged the seller to see if we could work something out, and he immediately dropped the price to $23,000. Perfect. But this was in the middle of July, and I wasn't going to be back in California until mid-september. I told him that if its still for sale when I come home (which I was sure it wouldn't be), then I'll 100% take it off his hands. Fast forward again to late August, two weeks from leaving Afghanistan. I get back on the forum, check the for sale post, and shes still for sale! I message the seller again, and tell him if he can hold the car for two weeks, I'll be there with a check in-hand. And he agreed. First weekend back in the states, my wife Jackie and I fly up to San Francisco to meet the owner and my new (to me) M3. I was amazed at what I saw. Not one picture did this car justice. I took it for a quick test-drive and quickly signed everything I needed to and begun my 9 hour trip back to SoCal. Just recently had an HPF stage 1 turbo kit installed, and shes making 467whp and 343tq. Im having an absolute blast in this car. Its only a matter of time until I want more power!
