So the story of my Cobra starts with my first Mustang, which I had owned since high school, getting totaled in October of 2013 when someone ran a red light. My dad and I were ok but the mustang had seen better days. Before I had even received the insurance money I was online trying to track down another V6 but I quickly realized that prices for a clean standard shift V6 were a couple of grand over what I was getting from the insurance company. Long story short since I would be borrowing money anyway I decided to take the plunge and forgo a second V6 and step on up to a 1999 or 2001 Mustang Cobra. I spent the next three months flying around the country trying to find the perfect car but they were all either beat and ready to need a major service or rusted to the point of questionable safety. Then I found one on craigslist just a few hours from home in Columbus Ohio. The motor had a knocking sound that started around 3k RPM which was a worry but the owner knew this and it was priced accordingly. After getting all the paper work done and getting plates for the car I began the three hour drive, long story short ten miles from my house the knocking sound at 3k RPM turned into a full blown rattle at any engine speed. Thrown bearing. The next month was spent trying to hunt down a new short block but to no avail. Finally the factory motor was sent out to Accurate Engine in Grandville Michigan where a complete tear down and rebuild took place. Today the Cobra is my daily driver for 8 months out of the year and is on the way to becoming a serious track car.
