This is my second Powerstroke in the past 3 years since switching from gasser's to diesel's. My first one was an early 1999 7.3L 4x4 XLT but I wanted more power so I began a search for 6.0L. I bought this one last October but I soon realized that PO did some hokey stuff with the truck. The engine was conservatively estimated at about 675hp but it smoked pretty much constantly and the boost was way too high not to mention the EGT's. With the help of a local shop the truck is now setup to make good power and more importantly, hopefully last for 200k miles or more before any major work is required. The power varies based on which tune is being used - hot street = 550 hp, street = 500 hp, tow = 450 hp (these are estimated rwhp) - and the truck no longer puts out black smoke with even a blip of the throttle. Yes, I miss the power and responsiveness of the previous setup but my engine will now last a lot longer. I plan on lifting it in the near future once all of the bugs have been sorted out but it's coming along nicely albeit very expensively - diesel's are expensive to upgrade if you choose quality parts.
