After searching for about  2 years on and off looking at different M5s, I finally decided to pull the trigger mid November 2016. I had been searching on M5board.com and saw that a user from northern California had his up for sale and my cousin (who works for an Audi dealership in the area) go check it out. My cousin reported the car was in great mechanical condition and appeared well cared for by enthusiasts it's entire life. The previous owner, a mechanic, did all the work himself so there weren't any maintenance records and he originally purchased it from a carmax type of dealer, so the service history is a little unclear. At 120k miles this car was incredibly well maintained, but no 15 year old car is without some issues:

The Initial List: • • Auto-Dim Mirror • • Front Driver Fog Lamp Cracked • • Park Distance Control  • • Rear Sunshade  • • Sunroof Control Arms • • Thrust Arm Bushings • • Bubbled shift knob • • Center console door broken • • Rear diffuser valence • • Quarter Sunshades Broken • • Washer Fluid System • • Wheels need reconditioning

Describe the modifications you've made. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it? Most of the modifications I've made to the car have been to restore original functionality of inoperable features. Things like the rear sunshade and the auto dimming mirror have little to do with the literal performance of the vehicle, but like most BMW enthusiasts I'd like everything to work on the car.

Having said that, I did want to enable some additional features and code the car. I've enabled Convenience Close (roll the windows up by holding the lock button on the keyfob); fogs + highbeams; and enabled the windows to be rolled up or down after the door is open and the key is out of the ignition.
