I'd seen this beast sitting in the lot at my mechanic and one day when I had my '99 Saab 9-3 turbo in for service I asked the service advisor about it and was told that it belonged to the owner of the shop and that he was thinking about selling it.  Instead of putting money into the Saab which I wasn't really feeling at the time (so slow!) I decided to make the owner an offer.  After going back and forth for a month we finally agreed on a price and I took it home.  It had several cooling issues the first 6 months or so that I had it but the shop owner was nice enough to work on it for free, but it became clear after a while that while he was a competent mechanic he really didn't know this specific car very well, so I did some work on it myself to plug up some of the leaking hoses and started taking it to Specialty Z in Chatsworth where they've been very helpful bringing it up to working order.  It definitely needs some love and can't be neglected but since I've dealt with the few minor things that were buggy when I got it, it's been very reliable and a blast to drive!  Next up is a new clutch and transmission rebuild, but I only drive it on weekends so for now it's holding up just fine.
