ORLANDO's STORY

Tell us the story behind your ride. What made you pick this particular one? I decided to get this car when I found out Audi was discontinuing the petrol A3 wagon. Where did you find it? Carmax has a really great search engine! New Audi's are notoriously high priced compared to a similar model VW so used was the only way I could get into one so I hunted on CarMax for a year trying to find the black on black SLine model I was looking for. I transferred in a 2009 A3 that was really well used and I was disappointed and rejected that model but Carmax brought in an A3 from somewhere( I had never seen this one as I often searched outside my local area) the next day that turned out to be what I was looking for, I saw the car at night and made the purchase on the spot by selling my 2005 Scion tC for $5000, $1000 more than what Carmax offered! Describe the modifications you have made. The biggest mods were the APR Stage 1 Tune, APR DSG Tune, H&R Touring Cup Kit matching struts and springs for mild 1.3” drop. 18” Moda MD21 Rims that match the matte gray trim on the car. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it? I started with the APR tuning and the last thing I did was the drop. It was about time to get brakes and dampers and I really liked the look of some lowered cars if they are done right, no rubbing or issues while looking good was the goal. Of all the mods you’ve made, which do you think offers the biggest bang for the buck? Of all the mods I’ve made, I think the Tune and the drop offers the biggest bang for the buck! The A3 has the highly tunable 2.0 TFSI engine that is capable of making gobs of power. APR Stage 1 tune costing $700 increased HP 60+ and TQ 100+ and the DSG transmission shifts so so smooth( APR makes a tune for that to so I plunked down another $700, it smooths out the shift points to hold the gears longer and let's you see what gear your in during tip-tropic mode. How did you go about selecting the specific parts for this build? I was working on a budget for most of my mods so I am always online looking for deals, but I definitely did things like the paint correction and ceramic Protection that were not planned from the start. Any installation tips to share? Yes, Order your parts way ahead of schedule so everything is ready to install instead of waiting because of manufacturing or shipping delays. I ordered a Stage 2 down-pipe from APR and they were out of stock and the wait was just so long that I spent the money on other stuff. I kinda regret doing that and there were some other circumstances beyond my control that were really frustrating like the time I chucked a large rock on the street, and when a dump truck lost some its load in front of me late at night and really messed up my paint. What are you planning next? I would love to do an engine swap. I don’t know if it’s easy or possible but I would love to get the 5 cyl. Engine that’s in the RS3, that engine sounds like a mini V8!
