Follow my car on Instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/randythraen/ Tell us the story behind your ride. What made you pick this particular one? Where did you find it? I was in the market for an Acura RSX when my stepbrother mentioned that the first STI he had bought was being sold by his best friend in L.A. After getting in contact with him I bought a one-way ticket to L.A and dove it back the same day. Describe the modifications you've made. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it? The car came with a front mount and some coilovers. However, the car needed a refresh as everything was starting to get worn out. I started with replacing the coilovers, brakes, tires, and intake but most of the work I did was maintenance. I have always been a fan of time-attack and road racing. So I started modifying the car around road racing with the end goal being able to enter at NASA or local events. My most recent modification is a Tomei Extreme Ti exhaust which shed about 20lbs from my previous APS exhaust. Of all the mods you’ve made, which do you think offers the biggest bang for the buck? When it comes to bang for buck either tires or an engine tune can go a long way. The most surprising modification was the carbon fiber driveshaft. The car feels more responsive due to less rotational mass. Also, it reduces chassis vibration which is a nice touch for a more "refined" driving experience. How did you go about selecting the specific parts for this build? Any installation tips to share? Most of my part choices were influenced by researched I had done. I would research what race teams and performance shops are using and what worked. What’s been the biggest challenge with this build? While this is a weekend street car, it is very much setup like a road race car. Finding the balance between comfort, ease of use and functionality has been difficult. What are you planning next? The suspension and engine are now getting close to being done. I'm sure something will change in the future when I start trying to refine the engine/suspension. The next phase of the car is aero and bodywork. I plan on making a rear wing, rear diffuser, front splitter that fits my needs.
