I took a Mazdaspeed MX-5 on a test drive when they first came out. I loved the styling (minus the huge wheels), and the fact that it came from the factory with a turbo. Although not impressed by the power figures or my butt dyno, I knew that one day, I would have one. Unfortunately, not at the price the dealer was commanding at the time. Fast forward 7 years and the depreciation has brought these cars into my price range. A local dealer placed an add for a near pristine example on craigslist. The price was right and the ever problematic jeep I was then driving would make a good down payment. At the dealer, I took it for a test drive. It was much faster than I had remembered and after closer inspection I discovered a plethora of Flyin' Miata parts already installed on the vehicle including, Full intake and exhaust, slotted brake rotors with braided stainless steel brake lines, larger front mount intercooler and a boost gauge. I also noticed the absence of a MAF sensor. A quick peek behind the glove box revealed a Hyrda Nemesis ECU. I had to have it. After little success haggling over the price of the MX-5 and the value of my trade in, I left the dealership empty handed hoping the sales team wouldn't call my bluff and would just give into my demands. The next day I called in sick from work and made a trip back to the dealer with the title for the Jeep in hand. That day, I drove off the lot in my new Mazdaspeed.
