Purchased in April 2011 with 46,000 miles. Yet another cursed car, likely because I picked it up off some small shady used car dealer. Two weeks after getting the car (and a couple days after changing the oil) I was out for a drive and felt like opening it up. The car hadn't shown any issues doing this before so why would it now? Immediately after revving it out, I start to hear a faint knocking sound. My heart sinks. The next few days are spent diagnosing, panicking, and living in denial. I've figured out it's got a slight knock on cylinder 1. Fantastic. A friend had put me in touch with what he believed to be a reputable and quality performance/machine shop. The plan was to have it rebuilt in two months and within a certain budget which the shop seemed to suggest was doable. Since it was all apart and the engine was out, I figured this was an efficient time to put some better stuff back in and sourced my own parts with the help of a friend and steep employee discounts. Finally got the car back 6 months later and a bill that was 4 times the targeted amount we agreed upon with no heads up about this while the work was happening. The car ended up having to be re-tuned by a different shop because of stalling issues. The car has been running well since and functions as my daily driver.
