Zac, I'm pretty sure it's because 1) similar weight 2) makes more power out of the box 3) there is a huge aftermarket for it 4) many more transmission options.

Can I ask why your going with the 5.3(vortec?) swap? I think a 1uzfe would be pretty sweet even a larger one from a 4Runner would be even better. Totally understand if it's one of those just had it laying around deals me and my buddy's have come up with some pretty wild stuff in that manor. Best of luck with your build love how it looks, I've been looking for a first gen lightning to get as a fun daily but after seeing your build I'm tempted to get a Tacoma.
