1. Tell us the story behind your ride. What made you pick this particular one? Where did you find it? I chose this car because I was 18 and wanted to get my first car. To be honest I didnt have any real interest in cars until I got my own, then I found a new passion that I realized has such a great community behind it! The reason I chose this car was because I liked the color, it gets amazing gas mileage and it was a relatively cheap car so it just seemed right for what I wanted. 2. Describe the modifications you have made. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it? My first mod was a sort of jerry rig custom intake, it made the loud turbo whistle and intake sounds as well as the bypass valve being audible! After that I think I cut off the muffler and it had a nice sounding idle but it wasnt quite what I was looking for so I eventually took out the resonator as well. At this point it would drone around 3k rpm and was very unenjoyable haha. Down the road awhile I finally got a custom dual exhaust done to my liking with 2 stainless steel magnaflow mufflers. I also removed the engine cover and some heatshielding around the turbo to make it more aesthetically pleasing. I got a tuner from Bad News Racing and asked for the most aggressive tune for 93 octane and after a few trial and data collecting tunes I finally got a performance tune. I immediately noticed the transmissions response and boost build up but I wasnt happy with just 20psi boost. I got a manual boost controller and installed it so I could control the wastegate how I wanted to! Now the boost holds more and doesnt fluctuate up and down like before. I then had it retuned and brought my boost up to 28psi peak on a 70°F day. I got so addicted to the feeling if the torque and boost hitting! Ive since upgraded to an AEM heatshielded intake system but I cant remember if I did that before the tuning or not. My most recent mod is a universal oil catch can from mishimoto! 3. Of all the mods you’ve made, which do you think offers the biggest bang for the buck? The most expensive but also the most valuable would have to be the tuner! After all it controls everything. 4. How did you go about selecting the specific parts for this build? Any installation tips to share? I chose my parts based on looks, performance, price, and availability. As you may know the Cruze is by no means a performance car therefore the market for performance parts is very small so installation can be pretty custom and complicated. The best way to learn is to take it apart and put it back together but make sure you do your research! 5. What’s been the biggest challenge with this build? The biggest challenge is the axles that just broke. Im now having custom axles made so I wont have to worry about it! The other big challenge is the small market for performance parts on a cruze! But Ill make it the most unique cruze you will see! 6. What are you planning next? My next mods will be bbs wheels and some nice tires, water/methanol injection, and hopefully a universal mishimoto intercooler! Every dreams of a bigger turbo but Im holding off for now. I just want a one of a kind Cruze that is the fastest 1.4L Cruze out there! While also being capable of the same great fuel economy its known for!
