K&N 57-2573 - Filtercharger Injection Performance Kit

About this product

The K&N 57-2573 FIPK air intake system replaces the restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing in some Ford Explorer models. K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten air flow. This allows your Explorer's engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air filter assembly. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine's RPM range. The 57-2573 air intake comes with a chrome topped K&N high-flow air filter and a heat shield that installs into the previous air box space. Air is directed through an aerodynamically engineered intake tube into the engine's throttle body for a guaranteed power gain. The tube accommodates the factory mass air sensor as well as a replacement silicone crank case vent hose and brake booster vent hose. The oversized cone shaped air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less using the existing factory mounting points. The tools needed are a screwdriver, ratchet set and an Allen wrench. K&N 57 Series FIPK's are street legal in all 50 US states and come with K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty.

No, K&N air filters have been on all of my vehicles. Wouldn't consider another type right now.

Was it easy to install? Any installation tips that will help others?

Very easy to install, but needed a MAF adapter. Called K&N and they sold the adapter separate for about $30.

Once you've had a chance to use the product, did it meet your expectations?

As always, great product at a great price. Never need to change another air filter again, but does benefit from cleaning and re-oiling via the recharge kit sold separately.

Any additional comments?

Compare with the $160 FIPK kit, this is the identical parts and we're purchased for $75 or so. It did not come with a bracket to keep it from sagging but I purchased one separate from 3sx. You can also source a larger elliptical filter similar to the old Air Charger kit that is not made anymore by buying the 1009 and 2g DSM adapter. That would be the biggest single filter that can be mounted in the factory location.
