What made you choose this particular product?
Word of mouth from several car journalists and YouTube personalities.
What were you trying to accomplish by adding this product?
Lower the car for better aero and looks. Remove what little body roll the car has from stock suspension. These coilovers also lower the car further than the Porsche 20mm (3/4 inch) Cayman R drop, which is not enough for my tastes and the Cayman R kit is also non-adjustable. You can save some substantial labor costs if you install yourself, but expect to get a wheel alignment when done.
Was it easy install? Any installation tips that will help others?
Yes and no. These rear strut towers are so tall, they intrude into the cabin quite a bit. Expect to cut or loose your rear speaker grill trim pieces. We did not try to reinstall the trim over the struts because the clearance was so questionable. They do make extensions to attach to the top of the tower to make rebound adjustments below, but there was no room to run the cable to the bottom of the assembly without cutting an extra hole in the chassis. See my pics. I kind of like the mechanical look in the rear of the hatch without the trim pieces.
Once you’ve had a chance to use the product, did it meet your expectations?
I've installed several coilovers in a different vehicle and the biggest fear is making the ride or handling worse. Fortunately, the handling is great and the added adjustment of rebound is a nice addition over cheaper one-way products. I haven't adjusted the bump compression yet, but the default KW setting (ride) feels great for the street - a little more stiff or "bumpier" than stock. We were able to get a 43-45 mm drop without any tire rubbing or bottoming out. The stance is now perfect and the body roll can't be detected, although I haven't driven at the track yet. The fender guards will scrape in dips in the pavement, but at my drop, I should have about 3 1/2 inches before bottoming out on the chassis.
Any additional comments?
Some sites report the front spring rate is 230lb and the rear is 400lb. We were able to get a moderate amount of negative camber from these coilovers (-2), so this is a good part for anyone who wants to lower their car and get ok camber at the track without upgrading their control arms. Rebound adjustments can be made easily from the top of the front towers. Rear tower adjustments are accessible when removing or cutting the rear speaker trim pieces. Depending on how much the car is lowered, it may be very difficult to use "lift bars" or a normal jack to raise the car on the designated jack points. Even though I can use my low-profile hydraulic jack on each corner, I'm currently trying to find a solution to raising the car on all four corners simultaneously for an oil change. Also, the car sits so low, it's almost impossible to adjust the bump compression setting at the base of the strut tower without raising the car or removing the corresponding wheel (so no road-side adjustments without the proper tools).
