Any tips on polishing raw aluminum wheels?

[]Joost Van Dien

I use a product that is called: Peek. Brilliant how fast that stuff works. If you don't want to do it yourself you can also opting for high gloss densification. This proces is not abrassive but works by hammering the metal structure flat. This hammering is done by a sort pebbles that lighty tap the surface so flat that it will show like a mirror. If saves a lot of elbow grease.

Thanks I’ll check out Peek! That sounds awesome, I’m sure it would look incredible. I’m just at this point where it causes me literal pain to think of paying people to do anything on my car. That might be a completely reasonable exception though!

The trick is to use a good sealer once you’ve got them looking fresh.

For sure! Any recommendations?

The one I used to recommend is ZoopSeal but they closed their doors :(

Internet says Wolfgang Metallwerk concours metal sealant.

If you find yourself needing a deoxidizing polish, Blue Magic comes in a 72oz (4.5lb) jar and it's pretty good. It won't be good enough on its own for rims though. You'll still need abrasives and plenty of free time.

When I did the set on my Civic Hatchback I spent a lot of time with super high grit sandpaper and buffing compounds. I'd recommend using something to seal up the raw metal once you get it to a point where the finish is to your liking. The bare metal will oxidize really quickly if you don't

Good call, I was thinking of starting by cleaning, then maybe 0000 steel wool and then some kind of super fine polishing compound. What kind of sealant did you use?
