VEHICLE STORY

I think I'm a bit crazy for my car. I bought it on a whim after looking at a bunch of cars online. I was only planning on test driving the car but I ended up buying it! This is not practical, however I've modded the car after about 6 months of ownership and after seeing all the youtube videos of other mods gave me ideas on what I wanted to do with mine. I started with springs and spacers since I didn't like the way the stock car's stance. After that, I installed the APR intake, and full turboback upgrade. The most recent mod is the Optix 3rd Gear Performance dynamic turn signals which I'm happy to have saved 50 bucks from buying an off brand from Amazon. We'll see how long this knockoff version lasts. I figure they're LEDs just like the other ones. There are several options to tune this car. Everyone has an opinion. I have tried both Unitronic and APR stage 2 tune and I'm currently sticking with the Unitronic overrun. Perhaps COBB pro tunes in the future when I get the upgraded Golf R Turbo. Currently, the biggest challenge on this build is getting the power down because it's FWD. So far I only have a dog bone insert and that helps, but I still get wheel hop. In the future I plan on upgrading that as well as transmission/ engine mounts. I just bought a South Bend clutch, but. I'm still on the stock cluch and so far it's holding up. . Once I upgrade the clutch then I plan on adding a few more boltons and a Golf R Turbo. Cheers!

Looks great. I really like the red accents on black paint. 🖤

Red on black is always a good plan!

[]Sac Car Scene

Lovely GTI. Look forward to seeing more done with your car.

Is the APR a tuning device?

[]Wayne Lowe

APR is the tune that was installed via laptop to the OBD2 port. A new map my ECU. go.apr.com I like your car.

[]Tom Armstrong

Oh cool! Thanks man, I wish Toyota had some tuning options too...

[]Wayne Lowe

I didn't know Toyota would be so difficult to What did they lock down the ECU like Honda Type R? Limited tuning options?

[]Tom Armstrong

It’s not that the ECM is locked, it’s a old design with a basic ROM chip. The only thing you can change is the VIN and engine size

[]Wayne Lowe

APR is slightly better on the throttle reaponse and turbo spooling times. Of course I love the crackles. I'm keeping this over unitronic for now.

[]Sac Car Scene

Great looking car Wayne. One of my favorite cars I owned was a 1995 VW Gold VR6. Wish I still had that car.

[]Wayne Lowe

This is exactly what I love about Volkswagen and its community. I love the GTI hot hatch history and the VR6 engine sounds. Very fun cars.!
