        VEHICLE STORY

Tell us the story behind your ride. What made you pick this particular one? Where did you find it? This poor, beaten, left for scrap Impreza was saved from heading to the junkyard. I picked it up non-running for just a hair over scrap price, and working to bring it back to life as a weekend fun car. My 2017 WRX STi is my daily, and this is going to be the one I'm dumping my hours into (and of course my wallet into). Describe the modifications you've made. Where did you start, what’s the most recent mod and what motivated it? This is going to be built at home as much as I can, and so far we've fooled around with the base 2.2L to see if it would fire. We believe it's toast, as the previous owner had it out of time after replacing the water pump. We've got the engine pulled, and will be soon pulling the trans and drivetrain as well.  Of all the mods you’ve made, which do you think offers the biggest bang for the buck? How did you go about selecting the specific parts for this build? Any installation tips to share? What are you planning next? Finishing stripping it down to the basics inside, and then working on some rust repair on the rear quarter panels.  What’s been the biggest challenge with this build?

I'd probably try and use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the smashed in dash piece and try to reshape it by hand. You really want to be careful with the heat though as you could permanently damage the dash covering. Though, that may be a non issue if you're already considering it being a total write-off.

I'll give that a go this afternoon and post the results. After just letting it relax on its own over the weekend it has taken back a bit of the shape, but still has the wrinkled texture. I'm fine with writing it off if I have to, but I'd like to save a couple hundred bucks if I can.

If I can get it back to a mostly smooth appearance, I will probably just flock the dash anyway.

Looks like it's got some nice goodies sitting inside it too!

Found a few things so far, haven't dug in deep enough to see if the downpipe has been changed (I can see the stock heat shield, but not sure if under that lies something aftermarket). Intake, recirculating valve and ECU have all been touched. Within the "interior" I've found a Blitz JDM boost gauge, Blitz turbo timer and some JDM security system.

It's always nice when you get those kind of extras without knowing they were there when you purchased it.

Big update!! How much power do you expect to make?

        []Will Denham

I am aiming to get as close to 280-300whp with stock internals as I can. End goal for this will be 400whp in the next couple of years though.
