I bought the "Land Crusher" about 4 years ago from the original owner in Bishop, Ca. When I first saw the truck I wasn't really looking for an old FJ and it didn't even have a For Sale sign in the window. That year, Mammoth mountain had really good snowfall so myself, my now fiancé, and her dad all road tripped up there from Orange County to go snowboarding. We stayed at the Econolodge in Bishop, just off CA395 where we saw the truck parked. Side note: if you go to Mammoth, stay in Bishop, it's waaaaay cheaper and the 30 minute drive is a worth-while sacrifice instead of crazy hotel prices. Anyway, back to the story. The whole 4 days we were in the area, the truck never moved. My father-in-law started checking it out to see how clean it was. He's owned his '82 FJ40 for 30 years and has been a Land Cruiser guy for longer than that. Before we left to go back home, he talked me into leaving my info with the front desk of the hotel. I walked to the front desk and asked about the truck. The kid working there said that it was his uncle's who was out of town visiting his daughter in Switzerland for two weeks. I asked if he'd ever thought of selling the truck to which the kid replied that over the years some offers were made but never taken.... To Be Continued.....
